I have recently fallen in love with quick crochet projects and this crochet scrunchie had to make an appearance. As of September 2025, i embarked on a journey to write 30 quick crochet projects patterns and i am glad this made it to the list!
Day 1 was a beautiful crochet bandana with beads that i absolutely love. As someone who loves knitting over crochet, i am loving these quick crochet projects to be honest. The free crochet scrunchie pattern is down below just scroll a little.

Beginner Crochet Scrunchie
After i finished my first scrunchie and saw how fast and easy it was, i quicky made another one. I still have enough yarn to make crochet scrunchies for my friends because it is easily a scrap yarn crochet project.
If wish to see some of my other beginner friendly quick crochet projects then check these articles out:

If you can tell from the picture, i made 2 rows of double crochet which is optional. You can work 1 row or more rows than i did for a fuller and bigger crochet scrunchie. It is all up to you!

Materials
You can use any yarn you want, but personally, i love the velvet yarn i used!
- Velvet Yarn-Bernat
- Ergonomic crochet hook-5.5mm
- Crochet scissors
- Stitch marker (optional)
- Hair elastic
- Tapestry needle

Stitches
SC- single crochet
DC- Double Crochet
Rep- Repeat
Slst- Slip stitch

PATTERN
Start by making a sc through your hair elastic and make a sc

Now place more sc all around the hair elastic till you cannot see the hair elastic
when you have made your way around, pull the sc on the hair elastic back to make room for more sc. you want as many sc as you can get on the elastic.

Slst to the firsr sc you made and ch3, this ch3 does not count as a stitch. in the first sc of the round, place 3dc,

Place 3dc in all the sc all around the scrunchie

After you are done, slst to the first ch3 of the round and if you are okay with one round of dc, then you can stop there. But if you want, work another round of dc.

To work another round of dc, ch 3, dc all around without increasing anymore. We are now just adding length.

At the end, slst to the fist ch3. If you like, you can work another row otherwise, ch1 and fasten off. weave in the ends with your yarn needle.
Now you are done and you can make more to sell or gift to friends and family.
