How to crochet a plussize cardigan

The crochet stitches used to crochet the Plus Size Crochet Cardigan include the Single Crochet (sc) , half double crochet (hdc), Slip stitch (slst). These crochet stitches are beginner-friendly and work up quickly.

The Plus size Crochet Cardigan pattern includes women’s sizing from XS-5X. Sizing is based on women’s standard sizing index and we use US crochet terms.

Crochet Cardigan Inspiration

I am obsessed with beauty and comfort. And since the oversized crochet cardigans are in style, i could not resist making this lovely almond plus size cardigan. I put my hands to work, and worked this ribbed crochet cardigan for all sizes.

Cardigan Construction

If you know me, then you must understand that i love to work a seamless project. But that was not possible with this almond cardigan, so i did my level best to reduce the sewing and connecting in this pattern.

We begin with the first front panel where we work the rows till they slightly fall off our shoulder, then we make a long chain that seperates the front from the back while leaving room for the sleeves. We proceed to work the back panel where we then later seperate to the last front panel.

CLosing it, we close the coulders and work the sleeves onto the cardigan, ad finish with working the collar onto the cardigan too. So you crochet and sew at the same time! At the end, the only sewing you are doing is closing the sleeves and weaving in all the ends.

So without further ado, let’s get to the Easy Beginner friendly crochet plus size cardigan pattern.

Materials

DK Weight Yarn

You can use any DK weight yarn you have close by. If you do not have any yarn at hand, then check out this Anti Pilling every day yarn you can wear for years to come.

The best yarn for wearables is yarn that promises to look freh after many washes. And this DK yarn promises just that.

  1. Please can you tell me which hook to you start with when you do your foundation chains of 71 etc. You mentioned the hooks after this but it is not in the supply list either, just a photo of three hooks.
    Thank you for your response.

  3. Hi. I am watching the video and it shows you using 2 strands of yarn, but I didn’t see that in the instructions.

    • i am using two strands because i do not have access to a DK yarn. i have linked to the yarn you can use as an alternative though.
