The crochet collar top comes in 9 sizes that rages from XS-5XL, i made a size small for this pattern. I did make it short so that it resembles a cropped collar top but you can change that by simply adding more chains to the foundation chain.

Crochet Easy Collar Top

This crochet collar top is actually my first collared top this summer, i worked on other crochet summer top patterns but never considered a crochet collar top.

Well now that i have, i am surely and trully in love with the result. What took me so long? This year i have enjoyed working on crochet summer top patterns, mainly because they are so fast to work up.

Never crocheted a top before?, worry not, i thought a crochet sweater was super hard till i attempted my very first crochet sweater, i did not plan to make it cropped, it was an accident that was warmly welcomed.

So this crochet collar top can be your first project if you are a beginner too. Not a beginner? Then get right on board, feel free to add some style to it, see how you can make this crochet top pattern cuter.

How to choose an Easy crochet Top pattern

Most people will tell you the most complicated crochet project there is is crochet wearables, personally i say no. Some say mosaic crochet are for super advanced crocheters, also not true.

However, if you are a beginner, i would not advice you to grab the first crochet pattern you come across. Pick the crochet patterns that are beginner friendly, this means they have beginner friendly stitches.

If you are a beginner, here is what to look for when picking your first crochet pattern:

  • The stitches used– As a beginner, you will most likely learn to make a chain, single crochet, double crochet and half double crochet. These are the typical crochet stitches,if you are very comfortable with them, then that is a sign you can go on
  • Pattern level– Usually every crochet pattern will tell you what level of difficulty it is, if it says easy or beginner, then you know to go on.
  • Easy construction– If you pick a pattern that has a simple construction, the you know you can easily take that on. Check out the Cherry crochet summer top , The crochet tank top and This crochet summer top, these ppatterns are made from simple 2 piece constructions. Perfect for the beginners first crochet project.
  • Yarn used– The bigger the yarn, the faster the crochet project.

 CROCHET COLLAR TOP PATTERN

NOTE, the chain made here will result into a crop top, i advice you to add some more chains, or make a chain and hold it from your underarm and see where it lies, if you are comfortable with the length, then proceed.

Ch 31(41,51,61,71,81,91,101,111)

ROW 1: into the second ch from the hook, with the 4.00mm crochet hook, sc into 5 ch, place a stitch marker. Hdc into the rest of the ch, placing 2 hdc in the last ch to incr

Row 2: Ch 2, into the second ch from the hook, slst, slst into the back loops of the rest of the row, at the stitch marker, switch to the 4.00mm crochet hook and work 5 sc.

Row 3: ch 1, sc into the 5 stitches, switch back to the 5mm crochet hook and hdc, cont till the last stitch, place 2 hdc.

Rep this till you have a total of 5(7,9,11,13,15,17,19,21) rows.

You should have ended at the top of your work or on a hdc row.

SHOULDER PORTION

Ch 14(16,20,24,28,28,32,32,36) into the second ch from the hook, in the back bump of the ch, slst, slst all the way down, remember to slst in to the back bumps for the rest of the crochet collar top.

Finish the row as normal, we will work the shoulder portion without any increasing or decreasing.

Work 5(7,9,11,13,15,17,19,21) rows for the shoulder, this should leave you at the bottom of your work.

CHEST AREA

Place a stitch marker into the 10(11,13,15,17,19,21,21,21) stitch from the top, hdc into all the stitches till the one before the stitch marker.

Ch 1 and turn, work a slst row. We are working the mid chest portion of the crochet collar top.

Work 11(15,19,23,27,31,35,39,43) rows which should leave you at the top.

OTHER SHOULDER PORTION

Ch 10(11,13,15,17,19,21,21,21) plus one, slst down, work this shoulder portion as you did the other one.

It should leave you at the bottom of your work.

Place a stitch marker into stitch number 13(15,19,23,27,27,31,31,35)

Work hdc row leaving 2 stitches before the stitch marker, decr into the last 2 stitches, ch 1 and turn, decr the slst row too, decr the same number of rows as you incr the other side.

At the end, ch 1 and cut,

The front portion of your crochet collar top is all done!

BACK PANEL

For the back panel, we will do the exact same as we did for the from panel, except from the chest area. The chest area will be worked in one block together with the shoulder portions.

So ignore the part that tells you to place a stitch marker in the 10(11,13,15,17,19,21,21,21) stitch and work this part as normal.

Work the same  number of rows you worked the chest area. Decr the other side as normal too. At the end, do not cut the yarn.

Turn the work so that the right sides ( sides with the ribbing) are facing each other.

Use a 4.00 mm crochet hook if willing or a yarn needle to close the 2 sides of the crochet collar top. Close the shoulders too.

Clean the arm holes by going around with 1 sc row.

COLLAR

Connect the yarn to the centre of your chest portion with the 4.00mm crochet hook and sc around the neck area, at the end, slst to the first s you made and make a ch of 16(16,20,20,24,24,28,28,28). Into the third ch from the hook, hdc, hdc all the way down till the last 2 chains, in the last 2 chains, place a decr.

Slst to the next available sc around the neck to join the row, slst to the next sc to start the new row.

It is a slst row, so decr into the first 2 rows and proceed as normal.

We will decrease for a total of 7(7,9,9,11,11,13,13,13) rows.

(Place a stitch marker into the 7(7,9,9,11,11,13,13,13) from the other side of the collar.)

From here on, work normal rows all the way around for the collar till you reach the stitch marker, at the stitch marked stitch, start to incr, we will incr for the same number of rows that we decr the other side of the collar.

When you are done, ch 1 and cut.

Weave in all ends.

Your crochet collar top is all finished. Go and try it on, show us how it looks
