Design Inspiration

I recently made a friend who also loves to crochet and she had mentioned she would love to see me crochet something with some sleeves, so i thought i would give this crochet summer top a go.

Yarn

The yarn used for this crochet summer top was a DK weight yarn which you can find HERE.

I used the colour Chartreuse, but feel free to use whatever colour you may like. 

This DK weight yarn will still look fresh wash after wash and you will love using it for many other crochet projects to come. 

*The sizing guide follows size XS(S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL). E.g. “Ch 100(112, 124, 136, 148, 160, 172) means Ch 100 for XS, Ch 112 for Small, Ch 124 for Medium, Ch 136 for Large, Ch 148 for XL, Ch 160 for 2XL and Ch 172 for 3XL.

-Ch 1 does not count as a stitch The Crochet summer top can be worked to your desired length. 

We will use a 5.5 crochet hook for the body and the 4.00 crochet hook for  the sides neck line. 

The crochet pattern contains 7 sizes (XS-3XL)

CROCHET SUMMER TOP FREE PATTERN

MAKE TWO PANELS

Foundation chain:

Ch 55(65,75,85,95, 105,115)

ROW1: Sc into the back bumps of every ch, at the end of the row, ch 1 and turn

ROW 2: Dc in the first stitch, sk one sc stitch and place 2 dc in the next stitch, sk one sc and dc in the next st, rep this till the end of the row, place one dc in the last st of the row. 

ROW3: ch 1 and turn, sc into every st of the row. 

ROW4: ch1 and turn, dc in the first st of the row, place 2 dc in the next st, sk one sc stitch and place 2 dc in the next sc st, rep this till the end of the row where you will end with one dc. 

ROW5: ch 1 and turn, sc into every st down.

Rep rows 1-5 till row 7(11,15,19,23,27,31)

 Starting the next row, which should be a dc row, leave 7(9,11,13,15,17,19) st at the top unworked and place a stitch marker

Continue crocheting as normal, treating the stitch before the stitch marker as the last st on the row. 

Crochet for a total of 11(15,19,23,27,31,35) rows

You should have ended at the top of your work, now we are going to work the other shoulder portion of the crochet summer top,

Ch 8(10,12,14,16,18,20),

sc in the back bump of the second ch from the hook and sc all the way down. 

To complete the shoulder portion, work 7(11,15,19,23,27,31) rows and then ch 1 and cut. 

For the back portion of the crochet summer top, work the exact number of rows minus the neck opening. 

SO you will work one large rectangle. 

SLEEVES

Before working on the sleeves, we will close the top by laying the front panel on top of the back panel, sew the shoulder closed and the sides leaving the amount of ch for the arm holes depending on how wide you want your arms to be.

 Be sure to leave even number stitches for the arm hole, and that the number is the same for both sides.

For the small size, I left 20 stitches from either side making it 40 in total. For other sizes, it will be depending on your liking.

Connect your yarn on the under arm section of the sleeve, you should have ended on a sc row, so we will start with a dc row.

You will work the sleeve as we have been working the body pattern only that we will slst into the first st to connect the row, and be sure to use the st you slst into as the first st of the row. 

Rep this for the other sleeve, weave in the ends and cut.

Use the 4.0mm crochet hook to place a row or 2 of sc around the neck opening to clean it up.

And your crochet summer top is all done!
